[History] History: Czar is a complex character, possessing a unique ability to switch back and forth between emotions instantaneously, able to turn them on and off like light switches. He is perfectly sound of mind, so this emotional stability allows him to refrain from carrying a lot of emotional baggage. He can compartmentalize his thoughts and feelings, ensuring that his business is not affected by his personal life and vice versa. He prides himself on his ability to handle himself emotionally, and he rarely loses his temper. The only downside to his emotional control is the fact there are very few "middle" areas with him, emotionally. Often, he deals only in the extremes, happiness, sadness, anger.... And as a result, he can often express extreme reactions to certain situations, depending on how he feels. His temper is raging, his happiness is filled with laughter, his sadness drowning in tears. But he is not deceptive with his feelings. He has no problem telling you precisely what he's thinking and feeling about you. Never one to mince words, he is eloquent, and honest. Translating that into his business, he will tell the honest and brutal truth, exposing lies, and letting the public draw their own conclusions. History: Born into a very conservative pride, his father ruled the community with a fair hand. Proud to have his firstborn be a son, Duke Archon and his wife, Contessa, named their son Czar in the hopes that he would one day rule the pride after his father stepped down. Czar was spoiled, but was never a rotten child. Always grateful and attentive, he not only worked hard alongside his father, but also helped his mother, who raised him to be a gentleman. It wasn't long after that a miracle happened. Contessa was pregnant again. It was notoriously difficult for shifters to become pregnant even once, so to watch his mother carry another child, Czar was in awe. When his sister, Carica Aricia Archon, came into the world, Czar thought his life could not get any more perfect. He loved his sister, and like a proper older brother should be, he cared for her and protected her. Kissing her boo boos when she fell down, or making sure none of the school bullies picked on her, he loved his sister, and made sure he was there when she needed him. That didn't mean he wouldn't occasionally indulge in a little brotherly teasing himself, but Carica could handle herself, and the two did indeed end up rough-housing on more than one occasion. On the day that Carica actually managed to put him in his place, the dynamics between them shifted. Though their bond remained just as strong, Czar realized she had grown up, and was no longer his "baby sister." He treated her with the respect the young woman deserved, and ensured that he kept a careful eye on the males who had started looking at Carica much differently now. Soon, the news came again that Contessa was once more pregnant. At first, everyone thought that maybe it was a mistake. There was no way that a shifter could have three children so far apart in age. It simply wasn't heard of! But further tests revealed that it was true. And as her third pregnancy progressed, it was clear to see that Contessa's body had a hard time adjusting to yet another child. She was getting older in years, and bearing children was a heavy burden for her. Czar and Carica did everything they could to help, and at the end of her term, through a very labored and painful delivery, their baby brother, Marquis Archon was born. The doctors assured Contessa and Duke that her body would no longer be able to support children, but the female was worried. Over the next few weeks as she convalesced, she spoke with Duke about having a surgery done to ensure that she would not get pregnant again. Something within her told her that if she could bring three cubs into the world, there would be the potential for more. But Duke thought that a preposterous notion. He refused to give in to her request, and took her home when she was well enough to be moved. It was obvious that Contessa's body had been severely weakened by Marq's birth, but she happily raised the young, rambunctious cub. The younger sibling was the more creative and artistic of the group, his drawings and art projects were rather advanced for someone of his young years. The house was full of art work that Marq had designed, and as he grew, Carica helped to nurture that in her younger brother. Czar had gotten a job working at the local newspaper, and between his income, and Carica's as well as her ingenuity, she was able to find a way for Marq to take art lessons. He studied hard, making beautiful things for her in return in his classes. Life continued to be pleasant for the family until Contessa began showing symptoms that worried the siblings. After a visit to the doctors, the bittersweet news was announced. Contessa was pregnant. What should have been a joyous event was shadowed by worry. Her body was weak, and it was doubtful she would have the strength to carry the cub to term. She sat quietly and demurely as Duke announced that they would take every precaution and ensure that Contessa was comfortable. Carica, Czar, and Marquis all worked tirelessly to ensure their mother was just that. Kept on strict bed rest, the three siblings all took turns looking after her, adjusting their work schedules accordingly so one or more of them would be with her at all times. They made sure she was taken care of, and though they were excited to see her coming closer and closer to term, they were getting more and more worried. It was in the middle of the night when she went into labor. She was rushed to the hospital, and it was obvious that she didn't have the strength to deliver on her own. They had to induce it, forcing her body to bring life into the world one last time, and with the last of her strength, the tiny cub was born. Small....too small. A runt.... Something was wrong....He wasn't crying....He didn't make a noise. His eyes opened and he looked around, but he made no sound. Carica cleaned her baby brother off, and quickly moved to her mother's side, placing the little bundle in her arms. Contessa was fading too fast, yet for a few precious moments, she held her tiniest cub in her arms. "Chevalier.....you will be strong, my son. For I give my strength to you, little one." Looking to each of her children, she gave a soft, serene smile to them. "I love you all...." And with that, she breathed her last. Carica took care of Chevalier, becoming the mother he would never know. Chev was a strangely quiet baby, hardly ever crying, and when he did cry, it sounded strange. his older sister took him to a pediatrician and after a few tests were run, the news came back: Chev was 90% deaf. It was a birth defect, caused by his mother's weakened frame not being able to support them both. When the siblings received the news, they knew what they had to do. Carica, in her seemingly boundless practical wisdom, had them all learn sign language fluently. Marq took to it easily, looking at it as another form of art. Czar, on the other hand, struggled immensely. Even trying to equate it to a form of communicating was challenging. Czar, who was editor-in-chief of the newspaper at the time, was a rather slow-learner, but he eventually caught on, and while not at all as graceful with it as his siblings, was finally able to communicate as well as the others. As Chev grew, Carica patiently taught him how to cope in a world where all he would be able to hear were any sounds that would be loud or sharp. She patiently taught him sign language, and when he had mastered that, started on lip-reading. With the lip-reading began his own studies in how to speak. It was pains-taking work, as he did tend to get frustrated and withdrawn when he had a hard time understanding something. He couldn't express himself clearly enough. He wished he knew of ways to communicate, and it was Marq's artwork that gave him inspiration. He was able to understand emotion through his brother's artwork, though when Marq put pencils and sketchpads in front of him, there was no talent found there. Marq tried in many ways to test Chev's abilities, but though the runt had the eye for artwork, he hadn't found the proper skill set to create his own. That's when Carica thought of a way to allow Chev to capture his emotions and present them through his artwork. She purchased a camera for him, and after a few lessons on how to use it, Chev was turned loose on the world. For a solid week, he snapped pictures here and there, learning to develop the film and putting together collages that seemed to be the work of someone decades more advanced in the field. Through Carica's ingenuity, Chev had found his method of expression. During that time,Carica had met one guy and started dating him and they grew close but his brother also wanted her. She turned him down but he wouldn't take no for an answer. So one night when she was heading home from her fiancee's house, his brother attacked her. He was in his animal form and she had no time to react or shift before felt his claws ripping into her skin. It was deep enough that she lost a lot of blood and quickly. She woke up in the hospital and they asked if they needed to call anyone. Knowing how Czar was,she said no and she didn't want to put more on Marq or Chev. So it wasn't long before she was fully healed and returned home and told them nothing about what happened to her. Always taking care to not let the scar be seen by them and told them that she spent a few days with her best friend. Throughout those years, it had become painfully obvious that Duke had fallen into a dark place emotionally. Though he did not outwardly blame Contessa's passing on Chevalier, he also made no attempt to hide his aversion to the runt he had for a son. Chev, in his silent observance, learned to stay far away from his father, not wanting to draw any attention to himself. But soon, Duke made a rather startling announcement that would change the lives of the Archon siblings forever. Without consulting any of them, he had made arrangements for both Carica and Marquis to marry into a rather prominent and well-known family in the community. Their father tried to talk it up and make it sound like an honor and a privilege, but something seemed off. Marq and Carica didn't trust the arrangement, and the two began to do some digging. What they found was rather disturbing. An arrangement had been made that if Carica and Marq married into the family, Duke would receive a vast sum of money in exchange for the community influence the Archon family had. Angered by their father's deception, Carica and Marq both confronted him. His deception discovered, Duke tried first to reason with his children. But when they refused to drop the situation, he became angry, threatening them. Carica gave him an ultimatum. Drop the arrangement, or she would take the news to Czar and have him print it in the paper. Duke was furious, telling them that it would destroy the family's reputation. He begged and pleaded with them not to do it, but as he refused her ultimatum, Carica and Marq went to talk with Czar. The four siblings sat down together, planning out what needed to be done. Czar was enraged by his father's deception, and knew that it was time to move on. So he took Chev with him to the newspaper, printing out a scathing story that would expose the truth of their family's tragedy to the community. Marq was in charge of gathering together their belongings, while Carica was put in charge of the funds and the accounts. And as the morning edition hit the newsstands, the Archon siblings left their hometown to begin life somewhere new. |
